Ooooby customers on Waiheke have been getting weekly deliveries of fresh fruit and vegetables for over two years now. The boxes have been sorted at the Auckland hub and shipped over on the Fullers ferry, before being delivered to people’s homes (sometimes even by electric bicycle), but it’s time to go the next step.
A group of islanders is now working to establish an Ooooby hub here. Pete, James, Bea, Lou, Lucia and Philippa are planning a series of events and actions to increase Waiheke customer numbers to the 150 needed to make a local sorting hub sustainable.
Watch out for posters, articles and events in the coming weeks and months, and encourage your friends to get on board.
There’s even more reason to make Ooooby part of your weekly shopping cycle with last week’s launch of an awesome new online shopping page. It’s now super easy to choose what you’d like delivered along with your box of fresh naturally grown produce.
Together we can build a strong foundation of people, who can help build a local food system on Waiheke. The next step will be to engage local growers to grow more of the food we want, right here on the island.
